Paul
Shenton, Slot System's designer, struck upon the concept
in 1998 having just moved into an unfurnished attic flat
that was on the 4th floor and only accessible
via a narrow and twisting staircase.
Paul trawled round the shops looking for furniture that
he could firstly afford and, secondly, actually get up
the stairs into his new flat, but could find nothing suitable.
A
further complication was that this flat was only going
to be Paul's temporary home. It was one thing getting
furniture into the flat, but how was he going to get it
out when he moved.
He
set about designing his own simple range of furniture, the
key factor being that it must be easy to assemble and as
easy to take apart. The simplest solution was to create
items of furniture whose components could be connected using
a system of slots. Armed with only a jigsaw and a few pieces
of mdf he created the first of many slot sofas.
And
so the SlotSystem was born!
